This magnificent great horned
owl was sitting at the edge of the street across from the Kittery Art
Association in February 2007 when we arrived to hang our 4 person show.
He was being savagely attacked by a flock of crows and was unable to
fly. Frantic calls to local emergency personnel eventually resulted
in contact with a nearby rescue shelter who said they could take the
owl for rehab if we could capture him and bring him there. Capturing
him was an adventure like no other, but we were eventually successful.
Many thanks to Cindy, Tania, Mia, Sandy, and Sharon for their brave
effort! The shelter staff informed us that our rescue had indeed saved
his life - the crows would have finished him off within an hour or two.
The wonderful staff at the shelter nursed him back to health, and was
was released into the wild at his capture location a few months later.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the York Center for Wildlife
for agreeing to accept this magnificent bird and for lovingly caring
for him and restoring him to full health.
