While driving up the
winding narrow road to the parking lot of Rollins State Park, one catches
little glimpses that hint at the vistas that await but which don't quite
prepare one for the breathtaking view that appears once there are no
trees in the way. A steep hike to the summit provides a 360 degree view
of the area, but this artist was happy to stay below in the parking
lot and paint this exquisite view. The only drawback to the experience
is the presence of clouds of hungry black flies which are, apparently,
undeterred by insect repellent! But black flies are troublesome only
from May through July, and those embedded in the painting won't be troubling
anyone anymore!
