early Fall is a wonderful time to sit on the veranda at the back of
the main house at the John Hay Estate in Newbury, NH. As the morning
mist lifts from Lake Sunapee, one can sit peacefully and listen to the
calls of songbirds and the chirping of crickets in the garden while
wondering what life must have been like here 100 years ago when President
Theodore Roosevelt visited John Hay, his Secretary of State, at this
beautiful summer retreat which was home to 3 generations of the Hay
family.
