Taylor Sawmill, built
in 1805 on Ballard Pond in Derry NH, is the only surviving up &
down sawmill in NH and one of only 2 surviving up & down sawmills
in the US. The mill is open and operational only in Summer and this
piece was painted on Halloween - closing day of the 2004 Season - a
brisk Fall afternoon with the typical New England rapid changes in weather
from bright sunshine to moody clouds which make the lingering foliage
appear to glow with a light of their own!
