Step into one of the boats and journey serenely across Lake Galve to Trakai Castle, the medieval capital of Lithuania and residence of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes.

The insular castle was built in the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of one Lithuania's oldest settlements, dating back to 1st millennium A. D. and stands about 28 KM from Vilnius, Lithuania's capitol. In ancient times the town of Trakai, built around the castle and on surrounding islands, was called "town on the water", since it is entirely surrounded by chains of lakes.

Today Trakai, after restorations which began in the 1920s, is a favorite tourist attraction for both locals and visitors to Lithuania, and houses the Museum of Ethnography. The museium contains exhibits on prehistoric findings and on the Lithuanian Grand Dukes. The Park is the only Historical National Park in the whole Europe. The Trakai Lakes offer the variety of watersports including wind-surfing and boating..
